Why Your Vacuum Has a HEPA Filter

Your vacuum is equipped with a HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) filter to ensure a cleaner, healthier home environment. HEPA filters are designed to capture 99.97% of microscopic particles as small as 0.3 microns—including dust mites, pollen, pet dander, and even some bacteria. This level of filtration significantly improves indoor air quality, making it especially beneficial for allergy and asthma sufferers. By trapping fine particles that traditional filters often miss, the HEPA filter ensures that what’s picked up stays inside the vacuum, not released back into the air.

How do I clean my HEPA Filter

Depending on the style of HEPA filter your vacuum has, some can be washable and some can not.

WASHABLE HEPA FILTER

This vacuum comes with a washable filter so to clean the filter follow the below steps.

1. Tap out loose dust

Gently tap the filter against a trash bin to dislodge loose dust and debris.

2. Rinse with cold water only

Hold the filter under cold running water. Do not use soap, brushes, or detergents. Rinse until the water runs clear.

3. Let it air dry completely

Leave the filter to air dry for at least 24–48 hours, ideally in a warm, dry place. Do not reinstall it while damp—this can lead to mold growth or damage the vacuum.

NON-WASHABLE HEPA FILTER

If your vacuum has a non-washable filter follow the below steps.

1. Tap out debris carefully

Hold the filter over a bin and gently tap it to remove surface dust.

2. Use a soft brush or compressed air (optional)

Light brushing or blowing air across the surface can help remove fine particles. Avoid puncturing or bending the filter.

3. Replace as recommended

Non-washable HEPA filters usually need replacing every 6 to 12 months, depending on usage and manufacturer guidelines.

  • Clean or replace the filter more often if you have pets, allergies or vacuum
    frequently.
  • A clogged HEPA filter reduces suction power and can overwork the motor.

How do I care for the outside of my Product

When Cleaning the outer surface of your Westinghouse appliance please ensure that it has not been used for the necessary length of time to ensure that any parts that may become hot during operation have had time to cool. Then use a non-abrasive cleaning cloth to remove stubborn particles from the items body.

A damp cloth, used with a mild dishwashing detergent, may be necessary to remove grease/grime build up. Apply the detergent to the damp cloth and not directly onto the appliance.

The use of abrasive cleaning clothes may damage the surface and will not be covered by warranty.
